I don’t. I have what I think of (and get reactions as) – having LARGE dogs, plus having odd eye & coat color – to most people, so I just ASSUME people may be anything from concerned to scared when they see them. I sit the dog in advance of reaching the person (to give them the option of walk past or not and to show I have control) if we are on a sidewalk but many people (esp with dogs) will automatically cross the street even though my dog is not barking or lunging etc.
In my country a very LOW percentage of people seem to provide actual obedience training to dogs (so they are indeed well behaved – as mine are) so assuming the worse, would be the most likely thought. But occasionally, with people (w/ out dogs) and sometimes with kids – they do ASK if they can pet my dog – is he friendly? And we go from there.
